Our History

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is the sole authority with exclusive right to buy, sell, weigh, grade, assay, value and export gold and other precious minerals in Ghana. The Ghana Gold Board functions under the oversight and supervision of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Ghana.

To oversee, monitor, regulate and undertake the trading, assay, export, and other related activities in respect of gold and other precious minerals, while promoting value addition, combating gold smuggling and supporting small-scale miners and sustainability initiatives, with the ultimate goal of generating foreign exchange for Ghana and supporting gold reserve accumulation by the Bank of Ghana.

Our History

2025

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) was established by ACT 1140 to oversee gold and precious minerals trading in Ghana.

ACT 1140

GoldBod took over the assets and operations of PMMC Limited.

1963

The Ghana Diamond Marketing Board was established to manage diamond marketing.

1965

It was incorporated as a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) by LI 401.

1972

Renamed Diamond Marketing Corporation under LI 916.

1989

Renamed to Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation under PNDC Law 219.

2000

Converted to a Limited Liability Company under ACT 461.

2016

PMMC appointed national assayer by the Government of Ghana.

2025

GoldBod created to optimize and streamline Ghana's precious mineral sector.

GoldBod aims to increase forex inflows, gold reserves, and sustainable development.
